Rights and Humanity is a multi-faith, multi-cultural international movement linking people from many faiths and walks of life and of various political opinions. It promotes respect for human rights as a foundation for global economic and social justice and human development.

It aims to prevent and relieve human suffering by the promotion and realisation of human rights and responsibilities, to translate human rights norms and principles of humanity into practice in public policy, corporate, professional and daily life and works towards a better quality of life for people living in poverty and social exclusion. It is best known for pioneering a human rights approach to HIV/AIDS and to human development.

Rights and Humanity has been responsible for hosting a series of conferences and congresses to promote its objectives. The 'Big Hope Global Youth Congress' was held in Liverpool (June 2008), at which the NGO's Patron Cherie Blair was a keynote speaker. In February 2009, in order to contribute to the G20 reform process[3], it held the first Global Leaders Congress in Central London "In the light of the current financial crisis . . ". The 2011 'Global Leaders Congress' hosted by Rights & Humanity in Liverpool took place under the patronage of Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu and Mrs Cherie Blair. Presentations were made at that event by Roger Philips[4], Cherie Blair, Professor Julia Hausermann, Ms Bianca Jagger and The Hon. Charity Kaluki Ngilu.
A follow-on meeting to the 'Global Leaders Congress' was held in Liverpool on 9th December (2011). The keynote address was given by Professor Julia Hausermann MBE, with contributions from Anthony Russell[5] and Christiane Pedros[6]. The result was the document 'Shining the Light - a Call for Action'.[7]
